In 2011, the Romanian management consulting industry started to grow again after a period of economic stagnation. At the end of 2010, a majority of Romanian management consulting firms were experiencing a decline in profits, and by the end of 2011, around 70% of them had seen a decline in profits. According to a study by the European Federation of Management Consultants Associations (FEACO), 2010 and 2011 were an important test for many Romanian consulting firms.  In this article, we give an overview of what it means to work in management consulting and how you can become a consultant yourself. We`ll also share some unbiased commentary about the management consulting industry – the good and the bad. More recently, traditional management consulting firms have faced increasing challenges from disruptive online markets aimed at serving the growing number of independent management consulting professionals. The range of services is broad and includes change management, strategic review, project and program management, procurement, organizational design, etc. The type of training offered may depend on the type of consulting firm and its size. Large companies typically have a structured training program with a detailed induction process that provides an overview of the organization, structure, and specific roles. They are usually led by an experienced consultant. In small businesses, much of the training can be done on the job, and you`re expected to take things over time. It`s important to understand the ups and downs that come with a career in management consulting. It`s an exciting and rewarding career, but it also has many elements that make it challenging. As with many professions, the average person`s eyes start to shine when you go far beyond a simple description.
But this certainly does not apply to junior consultants at the management level, those who want to become one and those who want to climb the ladder. When these ambitious consultants or candidates ask me about my career in business consulting, they really want the essential details and can`t get enough information on how to succeed as a business consultant or, better yet, how to excel for upward mobility and career advancement.
